Opposed to my last nut butter recipe, this homemade almond butter is classic. It is nothing fancy, just good ‘ole almond butter.
There are no spices or extras in this recipe so it is extremely versatile. You can put this in your smoothies, oats, spread it on sandwiches, dip your fruit in it… the list goes on!
Homemade Almond Butter
- 1 lb. raw, unsalted almonds (3 cups)
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Roast your almonds in a dry skillet or in the oven on 350* until fragrant. It will take about 5-8 minutes. Do not walk away from them! They may burn.
Once that is done, let them cool. Once they are room temperature, place them in a food processor with the salt.
Now, process! It will take longer for the almonds to release their oils than some other nuts, like pecans. Every once in a while, take a spatula and scrape down the sides.
The almond butter is done when it looks like this:
Store in an air-tight container and refrigerate!
Oh, and just to let you all know.. do not buy salted nuts when you make a nut butter. It will alter the taste extremely. Buying unsalted let’s you control how much salt your butter will have. I don’t like my nut butters that salty, so buying unsalted is essential. Okay, rant over! 🙂
