I am one of those people that likes to watch a TV show from start to finish. When I was 13, I got the entire series of Friends for Christmas. Unfortunately, complete series are quite pricy when you want to buy them on DVD… so I wasn’t able to watch all of my favorite shows from start to finish.
The beauty of Netflix streaming is that most TV shows that they offer has every episode! It can be dangerous when you find a TV show that you love, so beware. 😉
I have broken it up into two different categories: comedy and drama.
Here are my comedy picks:
How I Met Your Mother
Ted Mosby is desperately looking for his soul mate. With the help (and troubles) from his best friends, the group of five young 20-somethings live in New York and go about their everyday life. The cast of characters are hilarious and witty. Ted, Robin, Barney, Marshall, and Lily are the perfect combination for a legen.. wait for it… dary show.
Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris, is the definite star of the show. Harris plays the handsome womanizer that goes to any length to catch a woman. It’s hard not to love him!
Melissa and Joey
I started watching this show after I watched some Sabrina the Teenage Witch episodes. Does anyone remember that show? Melissa Joan Hart was charming in Sabrina, so I was curious to see her in her new show.
I was delighted to find Melissa and Joey on Netflix streaming. I wasn’t expecting much because it is an ABC Family program.. but it was really good!
Mel (Melissa Joan Hart), a local politician, takes in her teenage niece and nephew after their mother goes to prison. Mel hires Joe (Joey Lawrence) as a male nanny to help her take care of the kids. Mel and Joe’s personalities clash and compliment each other in this great sitcom.
Tina Fey, the first head female writer of SNL, writes, acts, and produces in her Emmy winning show based on her life. It follows TV comedy writer, Liz Lemon, and her shenanigans with her coworkers. The stellar cast includes the outrageous Tracy Morgan who plays a dim-witted, unstable actor and the macho new-executive played by Alec Baldwin.
Liz Lemon is crazy relatable and lovable. Her clumsiness and no-nonsense way of working is really fun to watch. Tina Fey can always put a smile on my face.
My mom and sister made a routine of watching this every night from start to finish last summer. Let’s just say we were hooked from the very first episode.
If you need any other reason to watch it.. watch it for Kenneth Parcel. He is a hoot!
This delightful comedy follows a bunch of doctors as they go along their duties at Sacred Heart Hospital. J.D. (Zach Braff) narrates through his thoughts and fantasies in this medical comedy/drama.
The series starts on J.D.’s first day of being an official physician. There with his best friend, Chris Turk, they meet Carla the feisty nurse, the ornery Dr. Cox, the Chief of Medicine, Dr. Kelso, and a fellow new doctor, the neurotic Elliot. This series is fantastic. The humor is witty without being pretentious.
Just a note: Scrubs is said to be the most accurate medical show on TV.
Oh goodness, where do I start? Well, first of all, this has to be one of my favorite TV shows of all time. Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are the lovable mother-daughter duo that lives in the quaint town of Stars Hallow. Lorelai is a single mother who runs an inn in the beloved town. Rory (who’s name is actually Lorelai, also) is her intelligent daughter who has an obsession with reading.
The show follows them through Rory’s sophomore year in high school all the way to her college graduation. During this time, they face a series of twists and turns in the road while supporting each other every step of the way.
The inseparable bond between Rory and Lorelai is so warming to see. I loved watching it with my mother.. it was kind of like watching little bits of our life. Rory and I are so alike, it’s crazy. Gilmore Girls is touching and warm while having light humor. I highly recommend it!
Now for the dramas:
Once Upon a Time
This show is so clever! The writers take fairy tales and twist them into a plot that is outrageously awesome. Emma Swan, the daughter of Prince Charming and Snow White, has to save the town of Storybrook from a curse.
I can’t say much about the plot and characters without giving spoilers. *sigh*
Hugh Laurie stars as Dr. House in this Sherlock-esque medical show. Dr. House specializes in diagnosing unsolvable diagnoses in the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital.
He is a vicodin dependent genius that leads a team of extraordinary doctors to solve illnesses that nobody but them can solve.
Every episode is different and unique in regards to the storyline. From the very beginning of the episode, I try to see if I know what is wrong with the person.. it’s actually quite fun.
My current obsession… I love this show! Olivia Pope, a former White House Employee, starts her own firm dedicated to protecting the public image of prominent people in the U.S.
Kerry Washington does a stellar job of bring the independent and strong Olivia Pope to life. Scandal has some violence and (lots) of scandalous activity, but I can’t stop watching!
Now.. I want to hear from you all!
