“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”
Have you ever said something and immediately regretted what you just said? Yep, everyone has been there. Our emotions control our thoughts and actions, and unfortunately, can lead to some hurt feelings. James 3:6 states, “And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.” Now, those are powerful words! “Our tongue stains our whole body.” What does that mean?
Words can make us sinful which tarnishes our souls with sin. Thank goodness we have a loving God who gave us a Savior to save us because our words get us into trouble a lot!
On the other hand, our words can also be used to inspire and encourage others. A little later in James in verse 9 it says, “With it we bless our Lord and Father…” So, bless those with kindness and gentleness of words just as Jesus has done for us. Thank God and Jesus for their love for us.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
